Soy Curls: The Best Vegan Meat You Never Heard Of

When it comes to vegan meats, I love them all – from Beyond Meat to Gardein to Field Roast to Tofurky and back again! All these amazing companies offer delicious alternatives to the foods we all grew up with; foods like sausages, burgers, and deli meats, but without the cruel and unnecessary animal slaughter.

There is, however, one vegan meat I feel does not get enough attention – and it’s sad because it’s truly fucking awesome: Soy Curls. Never heard of them? Well, keep reading gurl.

Soy Curls are made by a company called Butler Foods right here in the U.S. To me, Soy Curls are hands down the best chicken substitute on the market. Yes, it does take an extra step to prepare them – you have to soak them in water for 10 minutes before you cook them – but it’s totally worth it. They’re also a blank canvas, so you can season them however you want. They’re essentially vegan chicken strips and they go great with any flavor. My favorite way to prepare them is in a skillet – I brown them with a little olive oil and poultry seasoning. OMG! They’re so good! You can put them in pasta, salads, sandwiches, on pizza – they’re extremely versatile.

Now for the real tea. Do you know how many ingredients it takes to make Soy Curls? One. Yes, you read that right, one ingredient: non-GMO whole soybeans. That’s it. Soy Curls also contain zero sodium and they have a ton of protein and dietary fiber per serving. As far as meat substitutes go, they’re healthy AF.

Now, if your local market doesn’t carry Soy Curls, don’t cry. Because they’re essentially dehydrated, they’re super easy to ship and they keep forever. We order our Soy Curls from Amazon and if you order six bags it comes out to just over $4.00 a bag. Trust me, you’ll use them! (Rumor has it if you order from Butler Foods directly though, they might throw in a freebie or two)
