“If vegans don’t eat animal products, why do you eat fake meat?” This is one of those questions vegans get all the time. First of all, none of the food we eat is fake, it’s all real. Secondly, vegans didn’t stop eating animal products because we suddenly decided we didn’t like the way they tasted. We stopped because of the horrific animal cruelty and violent slaughter involved in making those products.
With that being said, most vegans I know love to eat plant-based foods with similar tastes and textures to the animal-based ones they grew up eating. That’s why I was so excited when I found this BOSH! video the other day!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about the vegan meats you can buy at the store made from companies like Beyond Meat and Gardein. But these recipes use whole foods like mushrooms, jackfruit, and even cauliflower to re-create meat-based recipes in such creative ways.
For those of you unfamiliar with BOSH!, it was founded by London-based vegan enthusiasts Henry Firth and Ian Theasby. BOSH! began as a Facebook page that posted new vegan recipe videos every week. It soon garnered a huge following and spawned two incredible cookbooks. I’ve made quite a few of their recipes and I have never been disappointed. Their stuff is solid.
So, sit back and prepare to be mesmerized by this video. All these recipes look pretty simple and delicious. The only one I’ve made so far is the vegan steak and it was great – but I’m dying to try the “pulled pork” using king oyster mushrooms – OMG!! Enjoy!
