MorningStar Farms to Launch “Next-Gen” Vegan Meat Products

Incogmeato, the new next-gen product line by MorningStar Farms, includes the company's first ready-to-cook plant-based burger to be sole in the refrigerated meat case and frozen, fully prepared plant-based Chik'n tenders and nuggets.

Just a few months ago, MorningStar Farms publicized that they’re working on making their entire product line vegan by 2021. Today, the company announced they’re launching three “next-gen” vegan products under their new Incogmeato label.

Ever since Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods revolutionized the plant-based meat world, it seems everyone wants to get in on the action. Lightlife recently launched their revamped burger, sausages, and ground *beef*; and Gardein and Sweet Earth will debut their Ultimate meatless line and Awesome Burger, respectively, sometime in the near future.

Most of these products eschew the typical soy and/or wheat used in meatless meats in favor of pea protein. They also promise a more meaty taste and mouth-feel. Some claim to be “bleeding” veggie burgers, some are even sold in the meat case at the supermarket. You get the point.

What makes the MorningStar announcement so exciting is that it is one of the oldest meatless lines in the country. For more than 40 years, MorningStar has been producing vegan and vegetarian alternatives to burgers, bacon – even corndogs. In fact, they sell more than 90 million pounds of plant-based protein to people across the US. They may just be the most recognizable and widely-available veggie brands around.

MorningStar will launch three specific products under their Incogmeato line: a burger (of course), chik’n nuggets, and chik’n tenders. You can look for these to start showing up in supermarkets in early 2020.

In the meantime, the vegan products they currently sell are pretty damn good. We actually had their chik’n nuggets last week and they were extremely tasty.
