Vegan at Trader Joe’s: 24 Products You Must Try

If you listen to my podcast, you know about my slightly inappropriate relationship with Trader Joe’s. I can’t get enough of the place. With a Trader Joe’s store just a mile from our house, I’m there several times a week.

Trader Joe’s is almost too good to be true. It’s just so affordable! My grocery bill would literally be twice as much if I shopped at another grocery store like Pavillions or Ralph’s or, heaven forbid, Whole Foods. Trader Joe’s also carries a ton of vegan products – many which you can’t get anywhere else. And they introduce new vegan stuff all the time.

But beware. Just as soon as you’ll fall in love with a vegan product at Trader Joe’s, they’ll unceremoniously discontinue it. It’s just cruel. (RIP: vegan falafel wrap)

That being said, this list will probably have to be updated in another six months or so. So while they last, here are my favorite vegan products at Trader Joe’s right now:

1. Vegan Banana Bread

The vegan banana bread is a newer item at Trader Joe’s and it is AMAZING! It was so popular the first week they introduced it that they would sell out by afternoon. I’m not a big fan of the word “moist,” but this banana bread is SOOO moist! Heat it up in the microwave and pair with TJ’s vegan vanilla ice cream. Heaven!

2. Soy Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

I mentioned it above so I had to put it next. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Ari, vanilla ice cream? Basic.” But NOOOO sis. The Trader Joe’s vegan vanilla ice cream is fabulous. It’s extremely creamy and smooth. Pair it with that banana bread or bake an apple pie – trust me!

3. Birthday Cake Popcorn

Dear Lord… thank you for birthday cake popcorn!! This stuff is next level. It literally tastes like you took a Duncan Hines yellow cake and smeared the flavor all over caramel corn. Incredible! Fun fact: For Halloween last year, they did a candy corn version of this stuff and it was everything (and also vegan).

4. Vegan Jackfruit Cakes

These are newer to Trader Joe’s and they’re totally solid. It’s their vegan version of crab cakes. Pair this with some rice and the vegan tartar sauce from Follow Your Heart. So good!

5. Crescent Rolls

In the mood for some croissants with your breakfast? The crescent rolls from TJ’s are vegan, fluffy, and delicious! I’ve also seen people use this stuff in all sorts of interesting vegan recipes. Just Google it and you’ll see what I mean.

6. Organic Three-Grain Tempeh

OK, don’t @ me. I know this is just tempeh. But gurl, look at that price! $1.99 for organic tempeh?! Where else can you find prices like that?

7. Vegan Tikka Masala

This stuff is slightly spicy for me but my husband loves it and the flavor is fantastic. Don’t have time to make a fancy dinner? Warm this up for five minutes in the microwave and voilà!

8. Soft-Baked Snickerdoodles

These cookies are SO moist (I said it again) and chewy. I love them! Not only are they vegan, they’re also gluten-free.

9. Miyoko’s Cultured Vegan Butter

I could seriously write a whole article about how obsessed I am with this stuff. Hands down, this is the best vegan butter on the market. I cheered when I heard TJ’s starting carrying it. Use it in baking, cooking, or just do like I do and spread it on toasted sourdough bread.

10. Nutritional Yeast

This just serves as a PSA letting you know Trader Joe’s sells nutritional yeast. You’re welcome. 😉

11. Meatless Meatballs

As far as meatless meatballs go, these are pretty great. Pair with your favorite pasta dish or make sliders like they did in the pic on the packaging.

12. Hummus Extravaganza

This photo does not do justice to the dozens of flavors of hummus at Trader Joe’s. Organic, non-organic, beet hummus, horseradish hummus, sriracha hummus… gurl, they have it all! I think almost all of them are vegan too, but check the ingredients just to be sure. The flavors in this pic are definitely vegan though.

13. Dolmas

Trader Joe’s is the only place I know that sells canned dolmas (pre-made dolmas are usually refrigerated). It’s great because they keep forever. I grew up eating dolmas thanks to my Syrian heritage. If you’ve never tried them, they’re an excellent appetizer or a food you could pair perfectly with a hummus plate. You can also make these yourself but they’re kinda labor intensive. I know from watching my grandmother make these back in the day.

14. Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls

OMG! When my husband learned these were vegan he nearly cried! They’re definitely an indulgence but they’re excellent – everything you’d want from a sugary, chewy, cinnamon roll. Perfect for Sundays at home with some coffee!

15. Cauliflower Pizza Crust

A healthy and gluten-free alternative to pizza dough? Yes, lady! This was the first time I spotted this at TJ’s and I honestly can’t wait to try it. They also make another version from broccoli and kale!

16. Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Almonds

Oh, gurrrl! These are so good I actually refuse to keep them in the house. It’s the sea salt. If these were just boring chocolate covered almonds I’d be like whatever – but it’s that saltiness that will literally make me eat the whole box. You’ve been warned.

17. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

I have tried almonds milks all over the world and nothing holds a candle to this stuff. I don’t know what it is about Trader Joe’s almond milk, but it’s the best! I don’t like my morning coffee to be sweet and so many plant-based milks add sugar. This is perfect for me because you get that hint of vanilla flavor without the syrupy sweetness. Love it!

18. Vegan Trail Mix Cookies

The closest thing I could compare these to is oatmeal raisin cookies but these are so much better because they have peanuts and they’re chewy. They’ve also got just the right amount of salt. I will not keep these in the house. BANNED.

19. Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette

First off, this is not that spicy. If it was, I couldn’t handle it. This is just a great peanut dressing that goes awesome on salads and pasta. Definitely worth a try!

20. Everything But The Bagel Seasoning

Stop the press, sis. This is consistently one of Trader Joe’s best-selling items because it’s a work of genius! You get all the flavor of an everything bagel wherever and whenever you want it. I’ve put this stuff on pasta, avocado toast, salads. Once you try it, it’ll be a staple in your spice rack. Trust.

21. Speculoos Cookies

These cookies taste like autumn! Honestly, it’s like the best graham cracker you’ve ever eaten but in cookie form. We all know that vegan graham crackers can be difficult to find because of the honey situation. Well these are the perfect substitute. Try these when making vegan s’mores or crush them up and use them for a pie crust. Versatile and AMAZING! I always have these in my house.

22. Organic Brown Rice Marshmallow Treats

Many store-bought marshmallows contain gelatin which makes them disgusting. Sorry, but no one wants ground up animal parts in their marshmallows. These marshmallow treats are just like your grandma used to make. They’re gooey, sweet, and delicious – and only 100 calories per bar.

23. Sunflower Seed Butter Cups

Trader Joe’s just starting carrying these like a month or so ago. They taste just like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups except vegan! Even though they use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter, the flavor is remarkably similar. It reminds me of those dark chocolate peanut butter cups by Justin’s that are sold at Whole Foods. These are really, really good!

24. The Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate Bar

Trader Joe’s has a whole shelf dedicated to chocolate bars (and bless them for it). Some are vegan, some aren’t. This is definitely my favorite one but you have to LOVE dark chocolate cause this chocolate bar did not come to play. At 85 percent cacao, it’s not for amateurs. I break off pieces of this and eat it with the Speculoos cookies almost every night after dinner.
